Licence and terms

TalkShell is source-available, not open source. You are buying a licence to use and change the code, not the right to pass it on.

You can

  • Change anything. Rewrite half of it. No obligation to publish your changes or keep it recognisable.
  • Run it on any machine you control, for as long as you like. The licence does not expire and the software does not phone home.
  • Use it commercially, inside a company, on paid work.
  • Ship what you build with it, as long as the thing you sell is your product rather than this source.
  • Keep your copy through any refund, update or price change.

You cannot

  • Redistribute the source, whole or in part, modified or not, paid or free.
  • Publish it to a public repo, gist, paste, course download or Discord where someone who hasn't bought it can get it.
  • Resell or relicense it, or sell a product whose substance is this source under a new name.
  • Share your download link or your copy. One purchase covers one developer.
  • Train a model on it or include it in a dataset.

Compiled builds count as the source. Install your build on your own devices freely; do not distribute it to anyone else.

What you are buying

A zip of the complete TalkShell source: a SwiftUI iPhone app and a Python server for macOS, along with the setup scripts, the agent instructions and the documentation. You compile it yourself.

You are not buying an App Store app, a hosted service, a support contract, or a guarantee of future updates. To run it you need your own Mac, Xcode, an iPhone and your own Claude subscription. If you want the install to last more than seven days you also need a paid Apple Developer account, which is Apple's charge, not ours.

Delivery

The download link appears on the confirmation page as soon as Stripe confirms the payment, usually within a couple of seconds. Links are signed and expire, so if yours has lapsed, email us and we will issue another to the address you paid with.

Refunds

14 days, by email. Write to us within two weeks of buying and we will refund you in full. You do not have to justify it, and it makes no difference whether you have already downloaded the source.

What we ask in return: delete your copy. We cannot enforce that, and we are not going to try. Refunding a source product rests on the assumption that the person asking is honest, which almost everyone is.

After a refund your download link stops working and your licence ends.

If you are in Australia, our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law, including a remedy where something is faulty or not as described. Nothing on this page limits those rights, and they are not capped at 14 days. Similar consumer protection may apply where you live, and nothing here limits that either.

No warranty

Except for the consumer guarantees noted above, the software is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We are not liable for any claim, damage, data loss or other liability arising from the software or its use. The server drives real Terminal windows on your Mac and types into them; run it on a machine where that is acceptable to you.

Privacy

TalkShell runs entirely between your iPhone and your Mac. There is no account, no relay and no telemetry. Your prompts, transcripts and audio never reach us, because there is no server of ours for them to reach.

Buying is the only point at which we handle data about you. Stripe processes the payment and holds your card details; we never see them. We keep your email address and a record of the purchase so we can reissue a download link and honour a refund. We do not sell it or send marketing. Ask us and we will delete it, keeping only what tax law requires.

Claude and Claude Code are trademarks of Anthropic. TalkShell is an independent project, named here to say what it works with. Anthropic does not sponsor or endorse it. Your use of Claude is governed by your own agreement with Anthropic.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Australia. If some part of them turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
